Vivekananda Child Development Programme (Early Childhood Education) :
Early Childhood Education programme was launched in the year 1987 with the financial support of Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India. After withdrawl of Govt. programme ECE continues as a part of Vivekananda Child Development Programme from 1998 to provide education for the rural poor children. The programme is spread over 9 districts of West Bengal comprising South 24 Parganas, Murshidabad, Bankura, Purulia, Howrah, Purba and Paschim Medinipur, Hooghly and Burdwan. Presently 123 Early Childhood Education centres are running all over West Bengal covering around 4619 (Boys-2453, Girls-2166) children of the age group of 2.5-5+ years. The programme focuses on development of school going habit, management of malnourished childfren, hygiene education, pre school education and ensuring parent’s participation
Major objectives of the programme:
- To impart child friendly quality preschool education to develop a solid foundation at early childhood stage.
- To ensure holistic growth of child by developing the right mindset for learning, character building and social well being
- Encourage parent’s participation to cater to child’s education, nutritional and health needs.
- Strengthen community participation.
- Awareness on preventive health care.
- Formation of Self-Help Groups for economic empowerment of mothers.
