Capacity Development & Income Generation of Farmers (CDIGF: 2024-25)

Ramakrishna Mission Lokasiksha Parishad (RKMLSP), Narendrapur as a training provider and coordinating Institution in the field of rural development has successfully implemented Farmer’s level training programme on Sustainable Jal-Krishi, Livestock Development and Agricultural activities in four consecutive financial years- 2021-2022, 2022-2023, 2023-2024, 2024-2025 with the objective of capacity Development and Income Generation of marginal farmers through training on Agricultural and Agri-allied trades in South 24 Parganas and North 24 Parganas, particularly in Sundarban delta.

Demography and quantity of training:

  • During the Financial Year, 2024-2025, a selected group of 1315 marginal farmers with the participation of female farmers (888 heads, ie, 67%) higher than male farmers (427 ie. 33%) received training in theoretical and practical mode on the scientific methods of farming related to their present occupational fields – Agriculture, Livestock Development and Pisciculture.

Total 47 nos. trainings out of which 33 nos farmers level training programme and 14 nos Short-term Orientation cum Refresher training for innovative farmers were conducted in 5 blocks covering South 24 Parganas and North 24 Parganas.

Grass root level organizations and rural support system:

Ramakrishna Mission Lokasiksha Parishad (RKMLSP), Narendrapur implemented these above mentioned trainings through its inbuilt three-tier rural infrastructure and system where the following rural institutions like associated Cluster Organisations, Clubs and Ashramas played a crucial role in the implementation process.

Involvement of Multiple Collaborators:

The project has successfully completed all 47 trainings on Agriculture and Agri-allied trades of Farm sector in two districts – South 24 PGs and North 24 PGs with support of                                                                                                                                             

  • Department of Sundarban Affairs, Sundarban Development Board, GoWB, 
  • Concerned Block Offices (ADA, BLDO, FEO),
  • Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Arapanch,
  • Agricultural Training Centre (ATC), Narendrapur,
  • Local Resource Persons and
  • Coordinating Institution- Ramakrishna Mission Lokasiksha Parishad, Narendrapur.

The Project has also completed post-training community level sample survey (825 nos) and captured progression and challenges at the implementation site, where trainee farmers as a beneficiary and project stakeholder took part in the primary assessment through ground level surveys.

Uniqueness and Effectiveness:

  • The training has made the farmers capacitated with new knowledge and practice and enabled them to mobilise and nurture their own resources through self-sustaining community process.
  • The project is unique because it is ornamented by quality training ecology, adequate input support system, Farmers to Government linkage, social learning opportunities and sharp gender angle with higher participation of Women group which collectively emboldened the farmers to become self-mobiliser.
  • The project has not only brought a significant and an effective improvement in the farming process for the direct beneficiaries but also revamped and re-energised the grass root level associated Cluster organizations through enabling them to organise series of trainings and mobilise resources at site.
